FENIX Chelsea Strides Ahead With First AMT In Australia 3 October 2012

Club members are feeling the burn at Fenix Fitness Club in Chelsea Heights, Victoria, with the installation of the first Precor Adaptive Motion Trainer (AMT) with Open Stride in Australia. The club's trainers and members are already reporting a challenging but gentle workout, with a high calorie burn and the added benefit of three different workouts in one.

According to the club's personal training manager, Wendy Bentley, the club chose to install the new AMT because of its ease of use, as well as its revolutionary ability to change workouts mid-stride.

"We were looking to replace our treadwalkers and we wanted something low maintenance and easy for our members to use. We are very excited by the AMT as it's so new and provides something really different in the gym," she said.

"It's great for our clients that require a gentle workout because they may be carrying an injury, but at the same time it offers a very challenging session as well - a combination that is hard to get on any other piece of equipment.

"I've done a few workouts on it myself and definitely noticed a higher calorie burn than I could achieve on other equipment. But the best benefit I think is the ability to switch between workouts without moving machines because you can change stride height as well as length," said Wendy.

The AMT with Open Stride features a stride height that can be adjusted from 17cm to 25cm, to create a more personalised workout with a greater variety of training routines for all levels of fitness. At the same time, the stride length can be increased from 69cm to 91cm, a great benefit to runners and taller users. The two features combined provide an infinite range of exercise capabilities and can even duplicate the workouts of treadmills, ellipticals and bikes.

Climb vertical and it's a stepper, increasing resistance, it becomes a climber, then stride out and you can be running full stride in no time - an all in one workout. The pendulum-like swing of the Stride Dial shown on the console helps exercisers see their stride length and determine the muscle group they are targeting. Gym goers also have the option to make their workout easier or harder by adjusting the resistance with 20 levels to choose from.

Wendy's members are also noticing great results on the AMT. Bianca Maher of Patterson Lakes said it's revolutionised her workouts.

"I've been using it for a couple of months and I am definitely fitter. I can run 10-15 kilometres on it, but it's a harder workout than if I did the same on a treadmill. I'm burning more calories and getting better results minus the sore knees and back that I was getting before from other equipment or running outside.

"I've had three kids and now I'm working towards getting back to my pre-baby shape. I've got more results in the last couple of months than I achieved in the last two years - this is the hardest machine I’ve ever used, but I like a challenge! I am definitely a big fan," said Bianca.

The low impact user defined motion means that just by moving, exercisers can go from short to long strides, walking to running, climbing to lunging, allowing them to target different muscle groups. At the same time, pushing and pulling the moving handlebars will engage the upper body, resulting in a total body workout. This elicits high levels of oxygen and energy expenditure, resulting in a high calorific burn with a low perceived exertion level, helping to improve fitness and weight loss.

Andy Pickett, Business Director, Precor Australia comments: "Precor is dedicated to providing the ultimate member experience and continues to develop and improve the equipment we offer.  The AMT with Open Stride means that for once, one-size-fits-all is not a compromise in performance. The new AMT's flexibility means that no exerciser has to spend time adjusting the equipment or settling for a machine that doesn’t quite fit. Regardless of size and fitness level, it provides an infinite range of exercise routines that will deliver the desired workout."
